DAY REPORTING CENTER

T
he mission of the Washington County Day Reporting Program is to maintain a high standard of public safety and community protection in a way that builds competency, capability and accountability in selected offenders who otherwise would be incarcerated.

The Day Reporting Program serves offenders aged 16-35.  The program provides offenders the opportunity to reside in the community while making significant changes in their life-styles.

The Balanced Approach Restorative Justice Model:

The Day Reporting Program is a structured four phase system, allowing offenders to “graduate” to each new level, with each phase becoming less structured and restrictive.  The rate in which an offender progresses depends on their adherence to contract specifications and itinerary reports.

The Day Reporting Center program incorporates components of the Balanced Approach/Restorative Justice Model:

 Restoration:

Offenders are obligated to restore both the victim and the community to pre-crime state, to the degree possible.  Offenders perform a minimum of 75 hours of community service and also participate in victim/offender mediation.

 Community Protection:

The Day Reporting Program works with non-violent offenders.  All offenders are electronically monitored and have to submit daily itineraries for approval.

 Accountability:

Offenders are held accountable for their actions and are encouraged to take responsibility for their lives.  Offenders are encouraged to seek employment and actively participate in a job search.

 Competency Development:

Often offenders have not completed their education and are placed in educational programs that best fit their needs.  When applicable, some offenders are required to attend substance abuse counseling and mental health counseling.
