According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles E. McDonough, 74, of Hunt Ave in Fort Edward after an investigation into the larceny of an electric meter. Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Hunt Avenue after two nearby residents reported seeing McDonough open the electric meter box on the pole outside of their residences and remove the meter, causing their power to go out.
The residents reported that McDonough walked back to his residence with the meter.After an investigation, McDonough admitted to taking the meter and told deputies that the other residents owed him money. McDonough was arrested and processed at the Law Enforcement Center in Fort Edward.
It was also discovered that McDonough is a convicted felon and by law is not authorized to possess any firearms. McDonough possessed several rifles and shotguns in his home. He was arraigned in Fort EdwardTown Court and remanded to the Washington County Correctional Facility.
Charges Filed: Criminal Tampering in the 1st degree (felony), Criminal Possession of a weapon 4th (misdemeanor), PetitLarceny (misdemeanor)
